Q: Does it matter if you mount them upside down? I'd rather the wider end be on along the bottom of the cars' mirror and it get narrower as it goes up.

I can't answer that. both mirrors fell of the first 20 - 30 minutes of driving on interstate 95 in Florida, don't buy them they are crap!
