A well made, attractive, effective sound machine
This is a high quality, very attractive, effective sound machine that produces a relatively wide range of frequencies, including into the bass range. Many electronic machines don’t do that. I’ve used the traditional, mechanical type with an actual fan motor for decades, and the LectroFan reproduces all of those sounds well. Plus, it also has a range of white noise settings. It was a very good purchase.

This thing has saved my sanity!!! Literally!
I am nearly 70 and have always had good hearing, but over the past many years my hearing has become more and more sensitive. My hearing test last year rated me as A+. My hearing is so keen that I cannot tolerate what I call unnecessary noise. If I’m in church, people talking and babies crying irritates me to the point that I have to leave or move my seat. If I were relaxing at home, I would be angered by noise from neighbors. I have had to move into an assisted living center due to my old age complications, and the noise from other residents – TVs and music coming from their rooms – was driving me crazy to the point where I would honestly rather be dead than continue living like that. Worse yet, was the amount of noise coming from the working staff! Between shifts or on breaks, they could be heard whooping and hollering it up with rauckus laughter halfway across the building! They didn’t care that some of the residents may be sleeping or resting. They would even yell to each other up and down the halls rather than go closer to each other and talk in a normal voice. I can’t impress upon anybody how I hated this place and having to be here because of the noise. I did not like having someone else’s TV or music blocking my enjoyment of my own TV or preventing me from resting or sleeping peacefully. Then my brother Informed me of this wonderful, magical little machine. It is like the difference between night and day in my room as well as in my head! No longer do I hear even a peep coming from the hallway or from other residents’ rooms. I am in blissful heaven! The only sound I hear is a fan since that is the setting I have chosen. I can easily adapt to the sound of a loud fan in my room. It’s not the same as having total silence, but after a while I don’t even notice the fan sound at all. I have it on 24/7. I cannot recommend this sound machine highly enough for anyone who is trying to block out noise! It’s important to note, that the machine has to be set between you and the offending noise. I have it between my recliner and the door to my room, but when I’m in the bathroom on the other side of the room, I can hear the noise coming from the hallway. So, you may need to have two separate machines going if you have noise coming from more than one direction. It will be money well spent, though!

Love it! I like how the sounds have some bass.
I haven't even used it for a full night of sleep yet, but I already love it! I turned it on and went through the sounds, and I really like that the sounds actually have some bass to them. I sleep in a somewhat noisy college dorm with thin doors and inconsiderate night owls who slam doors, so I need to use earplugs. But it gets a bit TOO quiet with earplugs. I like to hear the constant sound of a fan, or heating, or water pipes, or any constant sound that buildings make (and these sounds normally have some bass to them). Which is why I purchased this. I also like that it doesn't have any annoying lights that brighten up your bedroom. Another bonus: the sleep timer can be set for any number of hours, unlike in other machines where it's only 15, 30, or 60 minutes. My insomnia can be bad enough to the point that I take 3-4 hours after turning out the lights to fall asleep, so I definitely appreciate being able to set the machine for 5 hours or so. This was definitely designed thoughtfully. My only complaint would be that the cord could be longer, especially since my dorm doesn't have many sockets. But that's nothing an extension cable can't fix. I'll definitely be adding this product to my arsenal of supplies to combat insomnia! (Which includes earplugs, lavender oil, melatonin, diphenhydramine, and sleep sound apps – you can see how desperate I am to have a good night's sleep!) UPDATE: So I've been using this for a few days now. And it's great! Silence is obviously ideal, but if that's not an option, this machine works great to block out annoying noises. I've found it works best when you place it between yourself and the offending noise. It creates a sort of wall of sound, and it blocks out my dad's snoring at night as well as any outside noises like annoying car motors. It also works great when I'm just trying to absorb myself into a novel without distractions. The only thing i would like to see is a remote, and buttons to toggle back and forth between the noises, instead of having to cycle all the way through to get to a certain noise.

Excellent for home and travel
I have one of these at home where it keeps me sane. – I live in a noisy, downtown condo, with inner and outer noise. I suffer from misophonia, which means a lot of noises (footsteps, music, car alarms, barking dogs) create great anxiety for me and I cannot sleep; even after the noise ends, I will be so tense I cannot sleep for hours. The noise machine really helps with most noises. I bought this second one for travel. I just returned from a trip to Egypt where I slept better than ever. Normally, I have a lot of trouble sleeping in hotels, especially the first night in a new room. Traveling, the main problem is unfamiliar sounds, not misophonia. Other people I was traveling with mentioned their problems sleeping and wasn’t I bothered by the barking dog or the wedding party or whatever, and I had to smile and say no, I slept just fine with my white noise machine. I think LectroFan owes me some commission from the number of people who then said they were going to buy one for their next trip. From Egypt, I went to a hotel in Michigan where slamming doors and people talking in the halls echoed throughout my room. My white noise machine took care of that. I had no problem with voltage in either location. It worked just fine, just plugged it in and turned it on.

is there a better whitenoise machine?
Previously owned the Dohme. The Dohme has as slightly more rustic sound, but the annoying part of the dohm for me it wasnt loud enough to mask any outside/neighbouring noises in my noisy old apartment with thin walls, and neighbours above and beside. This has been a blessing this device, finally i have a machine that is actually capable of really reduce outside and neighbouring noises, i could not have been happier. I have my privacy back in my own home. Its like running an real industrial fan in your living room in smartphone format. It does not only mask my own sounds i make in my apartment but also from neighbours. i Like the whitenoise nr 6 the most. I consider that as the best mask out sounder like a heavy rainfall. Fan sounds is for more relaxation. But when its busy around you i always make sure to choose the white noise as it is better at masking sounds then the fan sounds. The cord is quite fragile i recommend it handle it with care. make sure to but the cord fully in the gasps underneatth the device as it can negative influence the lifespan of the cord. It is loud and i mean really loud!. You even have to go to 75% to nearly whitenoise your whole apartment if it has an open stairs to above. It is that loud. Not comparable with the dom. Best buy i made in years in terms of my mental health as it has a positive influence on my mental state because of chronic illness.

Perfect for thin-walled city apartments
I love a lot of things about my city apartment but sometimes the noise gets to be a little much. I have kids stomping upstairs and a chatty neighbor downstairs, and of course traffic sounds outside. I don't mind any of it during the day but it's tough not to focus on every little sound when you're trying to sleep. The Lectrofan has been perfect! I only like a few of the deeper-toned sounds but I just found one I like and stick with it. It's small, you can use the USB charger or regular plug-in, has a great volume range, the sounds are rich (phone app sounds are ok but don't really "swallow" other sounds like this does). I haven't traveled with it but it came with a few plug in options for travelers, it would be easy to pack so I might try it out. In short, it's perfect for what I needed it for, to help me sleep.

Great white noise to help block out unwanted sound.
This is a great device for white noise! I am a very light sleeper, and I live in a very noisy area. We live in a beach community with a large street behind our house that invites all sorts of noisy vehicles coming to and from the beach. (Ugh, the Harleys and cars with modified exhausts! It is great that they love their vehicles, and I don't begrudge them this, but it does a number on my sleep.) This device has many different tones from which to choose, and the volume can be as loud or soft as you like. I use it mostly at night, but sometimes I just keep it on during the day because it's just a soothing white noise. I also take it with me when I travel. There is travel case that you can purchase separately if you'd like to keep it extra protected. I would definitely recommend this product if you need to mask unwanted sound or if you just enjoy having white noise in your space.
