NOT "solid wood". Instead, plaster-on-wood moulding. Average quality.
There are two ways to make these kinds of mouldings -- one is to create plaster decor and glue them to the finished wood frame, then stain and varnish. The second is to do a "running mould" and make a long piece of wood/plaster moulding then cut to size later. This frame is made the second way, which is a lower cost method and lower quality too. It leads to issues like (in my photo) you can see the edges of the plaster do not join cleanly and evenly. In my corner photo you can see where they used a black magic marker to blacken some defects. If you are a painter, these defects are easy to fix up yourself using your paint. However, the overall effect of this frame is good -- the frames have a nice old fashioned look and do not detract from the painting. This wooden part of this plaster-on-wood moulding is made of harder-than-average frame wood, and it accepts screws well and without splitting. These frames are especially suited to landscape, portrait, and still life. This type of frame may not be the best match to abstract, cubist, or modernist paintings, but that's up to your taste. If these frames were made by the piece by piece moulding method, I'd give it 5 stars, because the defects would be nearly invisible, but using the cheaper running mould method, the defects are more significant, so that's 4 stars. Still, the frame is nice looking from a distance and is worth considering. BUT -- In this case I'm subtracting another star because the listing says "solid wood" and it is NOT solid wood -- it is a plaster-and-wood frame. Some people could be fooled and think this is carved wood, and that's not true. So, 3 stars.

Great Customer Service - Beautiful Frame!
UPDATE: Customer service has been great! They reached out to me (without my asking) and sent me some new clips. They fit perfect and hold my stretcher bars in place. I absolutely love this frame with my Tree of Life diamond painting and have updated this frame to a 5-star. See 2 new added photos.ORIGINAL: I ordered this frame in hopes of placing one of my diamond paintings in it using stretcher bars I have. It won’t be quite that easy. The stretcher bars are thicker than the frame inset and the little clips that they provided. I could solve it by adding on some little shims to raise the clips up. Doing that, however, will make it stand out away from the wall and my DIY fix-it job will probably show. I also tried one of my canvas prints, but it also was taller than the inset and clips provided. I watched the video posted with this frame a couple of times and the clips in the video are definitely bigger than the clips provided to me with the 16x20 frame. The frame itself is beautiful. It’s very ornate and came packaged extremely well. It’s in perfect shape. I just can’t use it the way it is because the clips are too small. I’ll need to go out and purchase a different mounting board so that it fits under the clips – or go out and find different clips. I don’t recall seeing clips like that so will probably go with the different mounting board. Because I need to do that extra work to actually be able to use the frame plus all the screw holes with no pre-drilling done, I’m ranking this as a 3-star. If I was basing it on the quality of the frame only, it would be a 5.

Decent quality look
This canvas frame looks decent. It is not without flaws when looked at closely, but it is fairly sturdy and a nice frame for a stretched canvas. My canvas is a 12x16 and the 12x16 frame fit it just right. It does need some installation, but when it's on and put together is seems like it will hold up. The frame is a dark color, with some warm tones brushed onto some of the details. It won't go with everything, but if it is what you are looking for it is decent. There are nicer frames available, but this one seems adequate for the price.

Elevates the painting
The frame looks great and my 12" x 12" canvas fit perfectly inside the opening. This canvas frame is made of dense foam and has nice ornate detailing. Yes, if you whack the corner of it, it will probably get damaged and expose some white foam, so just don't whack it and have a black market on hand to easily color in any exposed white. The mitered corners aren't exactly perfect, but they are very close and I only noticed when I was giving this frame a close inspection. I prefer the rusty color to be more random, so that black marker will come in handy to vary the appearance of it. This came will all the mounting and hanging supplies you'll need. I only used 2 of the brackets that hold the canvas in place because that's all it needed to feel secure. It IS very secure inside the frame. Yes, I did need to bend the brackets to get them to fit properly over the canvas, but that wasn't a big deal and I didn't even need to screw the brackets into the canvas, only into the frame part. I say this worked out well and I love how it looks.

Handsome frame for beginner artists
The quality isn’t perfect, in the inside corners you can see that they don’t quite line up correctly. However, this frame really does transform a painting into a museum piece. I got the 16x20 and 11/16” canvas and it fit no problem. I used my own hardware for hanging and it looks nice on the wall. If you’re a beginner you should definitely get one of these on sale, it will elevate your work and make it look very fancy.

Not 12 x 16
I got this frame specifically to fit a 12x16 canvas. When I tried to input the canvas in, I realized not only is the canvas not 12x16, but actually 11 3/4 by 15 3/4, the opening in the frame is 12 1/4 by 16 1/4, and the inset opening is 11 7/8 by 15 3/4. So the canvas that I wanted to put in it does not actually fit and falls through the opening. So much for 12x16. Also, the frame itself is not ornate black. It's a grayish color with a lot of orangey red rubbed onto it.
