Stays loyal to Original series; pronounced female roles
I recently discovered Dad's Army on another streaming service and became a big fan almost overnight.I watched the whole series and was starting it over when I remembered that I wanted to watch this movie.I'll admit, as a redo, I had my reservations about watching this.I'm happy to say I was proven wrong. The casting was perfect, every actor did justice to the original cast; in my humble opinion.I was thinking of renting it, but when I saw that Bill Nighy was starring; I chose to buy. He studied the mannerisms of Arthur exceedingly well.Toby Jones. It was good to see him as a lead character as I've only seen him as a supporting character; he played Mainwaring professionally well and his commitment to the role showed indeed.I especially enjoyed the stronger roles women actors were given in this reboot. In the original, Mrs. Mainwaring was always simply alluded to, but never shown.I'm quite pleased that they not only choose to finally give her a voice, but that she played an important role for the plot as well; as did many other female roles (i.e. Antagonist). This movie stays loyal to it's predecessor while simultaneously accepting and supporting modern society.I truly hope the cast would want to work on these roles on a more long-term basis. I have yet to read if anything further will be done regarding Dad's Army, however.

Not close to being as funny as the series.
Harmless easy viewing. I would have thought they would have used more of the classic phrases and lines from the original series.

Nothing can equal the original, but this is a great addition. Watch it!
The first thing to know is that the scene with the inflatable tanks, well, actually there really were inflatable tanks and jeeps, and probably other things, stationed along the southern British coast, and that the German photos of these played a large part in discouraging Hitler to delay his British invasion. I found this to be rather an amazing fact, but you can see film from during WWII in the show, “Secret Army”, season one, episode seven, of people inflating tanks and jeeps - plus the commentator states that these were effective. Anyway, this is a fun recreation of the most wonderful tv show, which I grew up with given that I am now antique, or, maybe vintage, although, of course, it would be impossible to duplicate this hilarious show, which you can, currently, watch on NetF. But, the actors/actresses do a terrific job and all production values are high. I found this to be a wonderful addition to the “Dad’s Army” canon.

enjoyed it. Granted
There's a lot of negative reviews floating around for this movie, but I for one, enjoyed it.Granted, if you're going to compare it to the original, you will be disappointed, and yes, the on screen presence of Elizabeth is somewhat disappointed as it ruins the mystery of the original series. However, if you view it for what it is, a new movie for a new generation, which does a good job of paying homage to the original then I think, like me, you will enjoy it. This is how most "reboots" are intended to be watched after all

Digital Code has expired on this product
I bought this as much for the Blu-ray as for the digital code so I can play this wherever I go. But this is obviously old stock as the code has expired. I contacted Universal Pictures Home Entertainment and that is what they told me.

Movie? Series? Why not both 😄
If you have the good fortune to watch the entire Dads Army on Netflix you will appreciate the care taken in this lovely homage to the original (ten seasons). All characters are very well portrayed. Catherine Zeta-Jones is great fun, tom Courtney, Michael gambon, Bill patterson, Toby Jones and Bill Nighy are all wonderful! There has been some criticism of not being true to the series, but I have to disagree as a movie is NOT a tv series. I highly recommend the movie AND the series. Have fun! Everyone making both had a good time.

Greats for fans of the show
My husband and I really enjoyed this. However, you have to be a fan of the original series to understand it really. He is from the UK and it was a massive hit there; but as an American I really enjoy the series as well. This movie is much better than the movie made at the time the show was still airing. We really appreciated the call backs to episodes of the OS and the cameos by "the vicar" and Ian Lavender.

Great Movie
The Dad's Army movie was so much better than expected. In fact I only bought it to complete the full collection of this brilliant comedy, despite the poor reviews of the re-created movie. The recasting really worked and was fun. The plot was typical and well written, and the movie itself was good from start to finish. It's well worth a visit, all shiny and new again.

The worst film and the biggest disappointment for a long long time.
As a fan of the original series I was horribly disappointed by this pile of humourless dross. Yes, there were some great acting talents on the screen but not one of them got the point. Toby Jones, as always, was useless with the acting ability of a 5 foot plank of wood and his comedic skills were either deeply hidden or non-existent. I don't think I will waste any more effort on this subject other than to say that the blu-ray disc is already in the bin. It was only £3.94 but was only worth £0.94.

A Good British comedy that tops the original.
After reading some of the critics I wasn't a great deal from this film but was pleasantly surprised. It's a beautifully shot film with some of the cream of British actors. For me Catherine Zeta Jones steals the show in wonderfully flirty performance. Toby Jones also superb and Bill Nighy again repeats a excellent comic subtle acting that was seen in Still Crazy and the Ship that Rocked. Wonderful nostalgic that tops the original's slap stick. Subtle humour, beautiful cinematography, a decent script and cast that obviously having blast together. It may not have been a huge success but I believe it will get better over time and be discovered by a larger audience because it's a good British film and what actors call a movie movie not like Most releases today in that it looks a cinematic film not TV.

can not compare to the original
having read a selection of reviews of various * ratings I decided to buy it. I am a huge dads army fan and belong to the DAAS. I am a believer in remakes are generally not as good as the originals. This confirms it. at various times the story did not follow, it seemed as this was a high lights film. did not like the introduction of Elizabeth, Cpts wife. It worked best not seeing her, except her backside in the bunk bed I am glad I did see the film and will keep the DVD as I have the orig film and complete set.

Who do they think they are kidding?
Not good. Failed atempt to recreate the iconic series that even the original cast had problems transferring to the big screen. A new generation won't "Get it" and fans of the original will be continually thinking how poorly it compares to the original. Whoever thought this a good idea was a stupid boy.
