Strong, sound and reliable
I have used this material for several seasons and find it the best I have tried for reservoir fly leaders. Not all leader materials are the same by a long way and this is one that can be used with every confidence. What makes this material better than most around is that it has excellent knot strength and consistently ties good knots: the Tucked Four-turn Half-Blood Knot, Three-turn Water Knot and Two-turn Overhand Loop Knot - the three knots that fly anglers need to produce for good sound leaders. It is not the thinnest diameter fluorocarbon around for its breaking strain but so many of the thinnest co-polymer materials are let down by their knotting reliability which is sometimes very poor, and the fact that a sharp 'take' ends up with a break at the knot. The colour is clear and it seems no more visible than other materials. It is claimed that fluorocarbon is invisible underwater but that is a fallacy - I have conducted tests and they can all be seen to some degree but that does not appear to put the fish off. They do not seem to be alarmed by it otherwise we would never catch them at all. The photo shows the visibility of 6lb BS leader materials: co-polymer 0.185mm diameter nylon (top), standard 0.22mm diameter fluorocarbon (centre), and standard 0.25mm diameter nylon (bottom). Make up your own mind.It is also quite economical - I discard my leader after each day's fishing and tie a new one for next time. Why risk losing a fish by hanging on to a leader that is past its best. It is not worth risking and it is always the better fish that test our tackle to the limit.Use this with confidence and you will not be disappointed.
