Works as advertised if you have USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 ports.
Really good USB4\TB4 enclsoures. Works as expected. Comes with USB4 cable, thick thermal pad that actually touches the aluminum enclosre, and a nice, rugged rubber cover that makes it look really nice. The Aluminum case dissipates heat extremely well. It's too hot to hold without the rubber cover during benchmarking. With a PCIE 4.0 4TB SN850X temps ranged from 62° to 68°. Too hot to hold but well under the warning temp of 90°.

This one will not work with iMac 27", 2017 if you want to use an external boot drive
I have 27 inches iMac, 2017. I tried to install with Samsung 990 Evo plus but it failed multiple times . This one will not work if you want to use an external boot drive with iMac.

Great enclosure, but you need to know how to use it
Pro:Price, got it for $38.Real USB4 controllerBackward compatible with USB 3 USB 2 (and possibly USB1, but who uses USB1 now)Con:Won't work well with every computer because USB4 is newRuns hot (unless you open it up and mod the thermal interface to the USB4 controller)

Good speed but with random disconnects
I use it as an external storage for Mac Mini. The speed is excellent. I got max speed for my NVMe. (The negative on this enclosure is that it randomly disconnects from the Mac Mini.)Updates: I replaced the original cable with a 6” usb c 4 cable purchased at Amazon, no more disconnects. I’m not sure if the original cable is defective or the length of it.

Works great on new M4 Mac Mini
Connected to a TB4 port on the back of a new M4 Mac Mini. Used a Crucial P3 Plus 1TB nvme in it. Disk Speed Test shows 2980w and 3060r and has been for over 30 mins of testing. Mac Fan Control software shows a temp of 46c while testing. I used the provided thermal pad and USB-C cable for my testing. $31 from amazon warehouse / open box.

Solid perfromance as expected.
Tested under both Windows 11 on Lenovo Legion Go (tb3) and linux (fedora 40) on Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i (tb4) using a Sk Hynix HFS001TEJ9X115N 1tb nvme and the cable included with the enclosure. Definitely worth it. Costs half the other 5 TB nvme enclosures I've tested in the past year.

Does not provide sufficient cooling.
This is beautiful and solid enclosure. It can accommodate a double sided SSD. It uses ASMedia chip, which is the fastest on the market. However, it has only passive cooling.I tried a PCIe Gen3 drive (Corsair MP510 2TB). I used Blackmagic Drive Speed to stress the SSD, and hardware monitoring app to check the drive temperature. At first, I measured over 1500/2200 Write/Read on a PC with Thunderbolt 4 port. On a M1 Pro Mac I got better results: 2000/2600 Write/Read. However, after about 15 minutes, the SSD temperature reached 70C and the drive throttled down to 100/500 Write/Read. This happened with both computers.I tried the same drive in a Maiwo enclosure with the same ASMedia chip but also with a built-in fan. Connected to the PC it reached 56C max. Connected to the Mac it reached 62C max. Both below throttling temp. At temperatures below throttling, both enclosures gave the same results. Also, both enclosures were updated to the latest firmware before testing. If you have a drive that runs VERY cool, the SSK might work for you. If you are planning to use PCIe Gen4 drive, I would only consider an enclosure with built-in fan. Please note that some enclosures do NOT accommodate a double sided SSD (for example: UGREEN). Check before you buy.

Caveat Emptor!
This might be more of an Amazon issue than an SSK one.I suspect someone else may have bought this device, kept its original 40Gbps-rated cables, lost the little rubber retainer piece – and returned it. When I got it, supposedly new, the retainer was missing and the cables the enclosure came with were never recognized as Thunderbolt by my M4 Macmini. So it’s going back ASAP.I wish I could have reviewed how the thing actually worked, but I only ever got it to connect as USB3.
