Best Optimus, but not worth more than MSRP!
First off, I was going to pass on this figure since the Earthrise Optimus Prime was good enough, but if you are in the same thinking I once was in you are doing yourself a disservice NOT buying this version of Optimus.Transformers Commander Class Studio Series '86 Optimus Prime's colors are vibrant, like he popped off the screen, likeness is spot on and the accessories are a god send. If you bought the Earthrise version, you know that he came with an undersized trailer with no Roller. This one comes with an in-scale trailer and Roller, a screen accurate Ion Rifle, energonaxe AND blast effects that can be attached to the weapons and flame effects that can be used as thermal jets lifting his truck mode into the air, fabulous! The build of the main figure is sturdy and dwarfs the Earthrise one bringing a more in-line scale to your collection. Articulation is excellent, love the separate finger placements and strong joints. The only negative I have, which is a non-issue when I really think about it, is that the matrix of leadership housed within Optimus' chest is the same one used with the Earthrise version. It is too small, but it's also the standard they went with since its release. Too late to upgrade that now.Do NOT buy this figure at scalper prices. You are only encouraging more activity of this type. Hasbro has already said this guy is going to be released all year long so everyone that wants one can get one. MSRP is $89.99 USD and that is all you should spend. As good as he is, he is not worth $110 or more.

Excellent figure, excellent toy
This guy checks all my boxes. He's screen-accurate, hefty, comes with a LOT of accessories, scales well, feels like a mini-masterpiece.Mine did have the notorious upside-down-heels issue, but I'm not gonna stress about it. It's an easy fix and if you really are worried, wait for the re-issue. My only complaint would be that the neck hinge seems to be super tight on this mold, not just my figure, and there is no paint in the spark chamber surrounding the matrix. Other than that, I'd say he's borderline perfect.

Easily the greatest mainline release transformer ever. This thing is art in toy form.
This is a fantastic piece. I have hundreds of official and third party transformers that range from little jada figurines to Haslab Unicron. This Studio Series Prime is easily the greatest of them all, as the perfect blend of articulation to be a child’s toy, detail to the 1986 design, and price to value as a toy. Transformation is fluid and engaging. This figure will easily sit comfortably on the throne of greatness by which all other mass release Transformers shall be measured. Most transformers I say get what ever you like. It’s fine to be choosy. This is one that should be in every collection along with G1 Soundwave. Hasbro/Takara gave this 200% and it shows.

An amazing Optimus Prime figure, with some bad QC issues
It's a good looking G1 Optimus with chunky size and engaging transformation, but some bad flaws keep it from being a perfect figure. And I'm not here to talk about the obvious feet issue or paint errors. My copy's hip joints were way too loose to handle from right out of the box. These days the tightness of the Transformers' pin joints feels so random that one feels too unstable and the other one feels too tight to move. I think there must be proper balance between them.Speaking of the tightness, the head transformation part(aka head flip or neck) needs so much power to get in the right position. The amount of power you need is too strong for a small part and sometimes it would leave a stress mark on your toy. The toy gets damaged because of its design flaw! Why would the designer leave such inconvenience in the final product? And finally, this might be some nitpicks, I don't like soft plastics being used in weapons and effect parts. They always get bended or melted soon or later, but you would like to have more durable parts for your toys, isn't it? I want some explanation for such design choices.Despite all the criticism I've written here, this SS86 Optimus is still a great figure. It is really satisfying toy to hold in your hand and enjoy the moment. However, the experience could've been better if it didn't have such problems.

The best Optimus Prime ever.
Call me biased. Call me opinionated. But I have to say this is the absolute best Optimus Prime figure ever released. He is simply perfect. The transformation is easy. His accessories are on point. The trailer is gorgeous. I would like to see a little bit more paint deco but aside from that it is absolutely the perfect Optimus Prime
