This is a very practical book. The one you want to have for reference. All pages are very visual format and step by step instructions. After each calligraphy style presentation the book include a hand practice sheet for scan or copy to use for practicing your hands. Mi favorite part in the book is: "Converting to a digital format". In this theme you can learn how to use a camera, a computer and Photoshop to convert your hand work to a digital format and use it in different projects like printed fabric , tattoos, etc. A very complete book and specially useful for a teacher.

This book is very thorough in showing and demonstrating all types of calligraphy. From Old World style to Ultra modern. Modern calligraphy has become very trendy. This offers several fun types to try.

I absolutely love this book. The price is incredible. I had it in my save for later for a while, I saw it at Blick for 24.99, I thought I’d better just get it. Truth is I haven’t used it much as of yet but I can see it being useful. Nice addition

Claims to be a comprehensive guide to traditional calligraphy, so I expected a book on historical lettering styles and alphabets, but only a small portion covers that. Most of the book discusses modern lettering styles and uses. Dissapointing

TL:DR;+ Great reference material for creatives and designers+ Nice design, easy to read and understand with pics and step by step instructions+ Comprehensive guide to traditional calligraphy (nib pens, illuminated letters, basic scripts, etc) and modern lettering (with emphasis on how to design/illustrate with letters and one chapter about chalk lettering)+ More info than typical "basic guide to" with useful tips and comments- Not really a minus but consider that it doesn't have many projects (not your weekend "do something pretty in 3 steps" kind of book)--------------------------------------------- The book is divided into 3 parts, first one is traditional and contemporary calligraphy, which includes all the basics plus plenty of tips, examples, different approaches and lots of alphabets. Then it moves into modern hand lettering. Lettering illustrations and chalk lettering are the main focus and, must say, this is one of the best books I've seen that makes it approachable for beginners without skimming off important information. The third and last part "creative lettering projects" is quite short, but the projects are really nice and you get even more tips from them. My favorite is the "personalized journal cover".This is indeed a complete guide to old and new techniques, with clear explanations, step by step instructions and color images to get you inspired and ready to give it a try. What I liked the most about this book is that it goes beyond general explanations; it deepens on those aspects that need extra consideration for newbies yet keeps things simple and relevant. There wasn't a single moment I felt overwhelmed by the content. Totally recommend it. *I received this eARC so that I could give my honest opinion.
