Beautiful book! Lots of great information and images---I bought it to give to a friend and he LOVES it. I will be buying a copy for myself as well.

Not only is this a stylish coffee table book but the content itself is superb. Every page is informative and every picture a piece of art. A lot of research was put into this collection of fashion history and I can’t wait to gift it to the person I bought this for.

What an incredible Metropolitan Museum publication of their extraordinary and timely exhibition Superfine. The book is beautifully produced with pages and pages of glorious photographs accompanied by informed scholarly essays. The exhibition is complex and showcase a wide variety of the fashions of Black men from diverse socioeconomic and sociopolitical backgrounds. The exhibition captures significant cultural and visual details which are elegantly and explicitly shown in this publication.

Pages and pages of creative brilliance in design, and beautiful people. It adds elegance and grace to any coffee table or room setting. An outstanding buy.

“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” is a sumptuous and incisive exploration of Black dandyism that brilliantly bridges fashion history, cultural theory, and visual storytelling. Centered on three centuries of Black menswear, the book follows style from its origins in imposed livery and uniforms through the Harlem Renaissance, the civil rights era, and into today’s hip-hop and streetwear aesthetics. Monica L. Miller’s essays are both scholarly and readable, framing clothing as a site of self-fashioning, resistance, and reimagined Black masculinity rather than mere ornament. The curatorial voices of Andrew Bolton, William DeGregorio, and Amanda Garfinkel deepen this perspective by grounding the argument in specific garments, archival materials, and museum objects, giving the volume the feel of walking through a carefully staged exhibition. Tyler Mitchell’s photography is an outstanding highlight: his portraits of contemporary dandies and designs by figures like Virgil Abloh, Pharrell Williams, and Grace Wales Bonner create a vivid dialogue with historical looks worn by Frederick Douglass, Alexandre Dumas, Muhammad Ali, and André Leon Talley. The result is a book that functions equally well as an exhibition catalogue, a critical text on Black style, and an inspiration source for readers interested in fashion, Black studies, or visual culture.

I'd seen the exhibit at the museum (twice!) and browsed the book at the museum gift shop...so I knew I loved the book and all of its exquisite detail. The museum shop was selling the book at full retail price and Amazon's price was about 30% less. I had also priced the book at brick and mortar bookstores, e.g. Barnes & Noble, where it was also available at full retail price. I purchased the book as a gift for a friend's "milestone" birthday and she LOVED it. The last comment I will make is about the beautiful packaging of the book. Really very pleased with this purchase!!

This is probably the most exquisite book I have the joy, and privilege, to own. From the binding, to the prints, to the essays it is without fault and absolutely exceptional. I paid €85 for in, ordered in advance, and it is worth every cent. The price is now reduced so, if you have any interest in fashion (particularly men's, which is very poorly served in publications) or black history this would be an absolute cornerstone of your collection. Truly inspirational, both in content and production.

Beautiful, we'll-researched book. A bit much Louis Vuitton but pretty fab and insightful all the same.

This book is worth the price. Lots of information and great photos.
