An app called "brltty" on Ubuntu prevents "/dev/ttyUSB0" from being accessible. I uninstalled "brltty" and the WitMotion device does works. WitMotion does not officially support Linux and Python. There is a Python Module called "witmotion" (PyPi) which does work (for this model). I have tested it. I am getting the angle (x, y, z) at regular intervals. With a math formula (search for it), translated the angles to degrees (digital compass 0-360). If you do not know how to program and are not familiar with Linux, stick to Windows. The Windows App is eye-candy, user friendly. However, the usefulness is integration into applications. It would be nice if WitMotion officially supported Linux and Python however, it works for me so, I am satisfied with the product.

Witmotion's website says there are no python software examples for this device. That is different than what you would think by looking at the ad on Amazon. The sample "python" software (they provide in a large zipped file that you download from their website) is actually in C++. I have spent four solid days trying to find a software example on the internet that I could get to work, but there is always something wrong or missing that keeps this thing from working. Oh, and the one "good" software example I found was written in a class structure, and I don't understand how the class structure works, nor was I able to unravel what it was trying to do to write non-class structure software. It also wanted to import "typing", and I think "typing" may be obsolete(?). VERY FRUSTRAITING. I am returning this to amazon. Also, it must be connected to the USB port. You can not connect it to the header pins.
