Great Game
I got this out of curiosity, and it seemed difficult to learn the rules of the game. However, after reading the instructions, it became quite straightforward. I am looking forward to playing with it with my wife and friends.

Great Game
Still one of my all time favorite card games. If you're from the new land of "living card games" like Arkham Horror and such, note that Illuminati is much, much simpler than those. This is not a hyper complex RPG simulator using three hundred cards that cover a dozen different game mechanics. It's a very straightforward game where you build networks of factions (like convenience stores, or California) to create your Illuminated empire. It's kind of like playing a political cartoon. Most games of Illuminati are going to take an hour, maybe an hour an a half, so you don't have to commit an entire evening it, like you do many of its larger descendants in the card game universe.

Only half the game?!?
I am a big fan of Steven Jackson's Illuminati Games, but not this set on its own because its missing so many key components of what makes the prior games so good.Perhaps if you've never played any of the Illuminati games before, this set would be ok, but if you have any experience (and especially if you've played INWO CCG!) then this set on its own will disappoint because you'l be constantly missing all the card/types that are not there. To make this game playable you are basically required to buy "Alternative Truths" supplement. If you do that you'll at least get enough card/types between the two boxes to make it fun, however even then you won't have some of the best cards from INWO CCG - no personalities, no countries, missing a few key plots - which are the very things that make the Illuminati card games so devlishly fun.One can only hope that SJ Games will update these "2nd Edition" sets with another supplement that gives us the personalities and countries and perhaps some updated plots/predictions that made the INWO CCG game such a classic.

I love this game
I first bought and played this game back in the 80s. Since then I have bought copies of it and gifted them to various people. I don’t know how many copies of bought but it’s probably at least half a dozen. I think the concept of conspiracy theories and secret organizations ruling the world has become even more of a thing lately. It’s great that the expansion packs keep up with the latest nuttiness. I can’t wait to see the Q-anon expansion set.

Fun, Tense, and Strategic
A great game from a great publisher. The updates the 2nd edition bring are more relevant cards and new card art. The art is very Munchkin and the new cards are fun as someone who is more familiar with the events of today rather than the events parodied by 1st edition. The game seems complicated at a glance but after some time the mechanics are easy to learn. I had a lot of fun with my friends, backstabbing, bluffing, and cackling like evil masterminds. A wonderful purchase.
