A MUST READ FOR NEW LMTs!!!
I just read the Kindle version of your book I bought this morning. I just wanted to tell you...thank you! My fiance' is getting out of massage school in June and I'll be the first to say that it has already changed his life. It has opened him up to caring deeper for another human being and their needs. He has faced some inner demons along the way as well. He hasn't lived the best of life by any means..I can venture to say he went from a thug (many years ago) to a caring passionate goal oriented person (present.) He attends a holistic massage school here in San Diego and has learned so much about the practice and himself. He has learned so many different types of massages and techniques and his desire to help heal people has astonished me beyond belief. I am so proud of him. During a conversation we had last night he revealed to me that he will consider himself successful when a client comes back to him expressing gratitude for making them feel less pain in their life. He was overflowing with a want to help heal people or to make them not have pain through his massage. I've never seen him like this before! I was so proud of him and how far he has come. We talked for hours more openly than we have since he started his journey to become a massage therapist. We began to lay out what he needed to do to begin his practice and his main focus was on marketing to those that "needed" massage such as the PIP and L&I clients you mentioned in your book. I am in advertising so I can help him get that part right. Anyway, I was online looking at supplies in order to get pricing for the startup and I see your book, download it, read the entire thing in a matter of a few hours and realize that your book is what is going to help him reach his dreams and his goals. It goes into detail what we pretty much outlined last night while talking. I know I have gone on and on and I do apologize but I had to write you and say how much I appreciate you writing this book. Where he had doubts about something your book removes those doubts and replaces them with encouraging words. I am also so glad to read "no white tennis shoes" because he was going right out and getting a white polo shirt, tan slacks and white shoes! The norm around here in San Diego...I pray that you have continued success and that you will write more books filled with advice for LMTs. You seem like one hell of a mentor....

This is an excellent book for MTs looking to make a change and an influential book in the continuing fight to get out profession more and more recognized for what it can be. Massage Therapy can be so varied and as different as the person giving the massage and their mood that day. By creating some guidelines and some basic principles that therapists can follow this book pretty much spells out how to market to a more affluent clientele. If clients could trust that some of the basic principles in this book would be followed every time they got a massage then I'm sure more people would feel comfortable getting them and they could continue to be more and more accepted as a necessary part of EVERY ONE's healthcare.Until then it's important to target the people who already believe in and use massage regularly and this book tells you exactly how to do that. No, she doesn't write you tailored marketing plan, that's your job. But yes, the book gives you plenty of resources and ideas not to mention Meagan's experience which has led her to being a leader and innovator in the industry.I had mentioned to another therapist recently that I was reading this book and that I really loved it. She is still practicing and has been for 30 YEARS! Her response, "If haven't figured out how to make 100K by now then I NEVER will." If that sounds like you then this book is not for you. I wish that I had this book in school because I could've saved myself a lot of energy marketing to and working on people who weren't in my Target Market. As a business minded massage therapist with a Bachelors degree in Marketing I find this book a unique bridge in the gap between the subjective, intuitive fluffy massage side of me and the objective, strategic business person in me. I find the objectiveness of this book extremely refreshing and necessary. My experience with the many young massage therapists I've worked with is that we LOVE what we do, we LOVE the freedom, but many of us are struggling to make over 40K a year. Others have found their niche and apply techniques that work for them and that's great, maybe this book isn't for you. Meagan specifically mentions where she came from and how her practice grew in the book in order to inspire those of us who are in similar scenarios.

125$ an hour? 100K$ a year? Really?
This book isn't made for massage therapists in Canada and Quebec because they don't have the same regulations and requirements as in the United States. Many differences especially in Quebec. In addition, rare are massage therapists who make 100K a year. In Quebec, this profession isn't recognized and requires a minimum of 400 hours to practice in a spa/clinic. That's ridiculous. More than 50% of massage therapists leave this profession after 2 years because they don't make enough money and have little demand. Reasons? Many competitions, massage therapists who charge 40$ or less for a one-hour massage. Pathetic when you consider you paid your studies 15 000$ and more. No registre in Quebec, only associations, we don't have the same luck as the Americans and other Canadian provinces. So we are very far from the 100,000$ a year. Really, 125$ for a one-hour massage? Some people doesn't want to pay such a price apart from a celebrity but if you're from a small town, how do you do? Celebrities aren't everywhere. Business people same too. We fight to succeed in this profession. I've been a massage therapist for almost 10 years and I have to say it's always difficult even after so many years of effort just because you need to get the profession recognized. Unfortunately, even though I am passionate, I went back to school as plan b.

Patronizing
Yes, it is true this book is meant to be for students and beginners in massage industry. I found the book useful in a chapter talking how to look after ourself. Everything else has been reapeted several times, and quite frankly I found very patronizing this mulling over and over obvious stuff, it made me a bit angry, we are not so stupid, are we?. I do not think it is a book for any European therapist, I believe we all are better than that. I was very disapointed with this book. As a kindle version o.k., but not worth so much money for hard cover or paper back. Will not buy anything else from this author.MFE
