By far, the best throwing knives on amazon. Worth the price.
Pros: + Very sturdy blades + Very sharp edges when received in mail + Perfectly balanced + Easy to sharpen + Easy to hide from curious children Cons: - a little expensive, but then again, the quality of the blades are that valuable. ~15$ per blade. - The nylon sheath is very poor quality, but then again I bought this for the knives. The clip that is designed to wrap around your thigh can easily break off. (I do a lot of movement, so the stress test is that consistent running will put too much strain on it. If you are only throwing with the nylon sheath on, then I don't think it will be too big of an issue.) - The paracord rap is fragile. Mine fell of when I would accidentally hit the other throwing knives' handle as they were stuck in the target. The more consistent you get with your aim, the more likely this is to happen. Not the end of the world, however, this will change your rotational speed of the knife and comfort for holding and throwing. -Ring on end of kunai can be sharp sometimes, and I sanded down the edges in the ring so that they wouldn't cut me when I would do tricks with them Images: 1: The first image is what to expect after about a week of use. (I keep these ones as "Show pieces" so when friends want to throw I can have a set too.) 2: The second image is what to expect after a couple years of throwing. They have been chipped on rocks, other knives, and definitely look worn, but I just kept sharpening them, and bam, good as new (functionally at least)! 3: The third picture is proof of the balance of the blade. Right at the end of the handle is where it should be. (It's also fun to balance!) 4: the fourth picture is my 2 sets of kunai put together. One with a week of experience, and the others that have been thrown thousands of times. Responsibilities: If you plan on throwing for a lifetime, I definitely suggest getting a wet stone. This can help you make the blades a lot more sharper after they become inevitably dull/chipped. Most chips results from blade on blade hits, bouncing off stone or rocks on the ground, and general stress that is usually pushed more onto the tip of the blades. Other than that, make sure your kids can't find them unless YOU trust them with it. They are sharp and cool, the perfect thing to send your curious boy to get stiches in the emergency room. Is this the right set for me?: They are heavy, sharp and dangerous. You need the bear minimum responsibility to upkeep them. More passive use of the strap will prolong its lifespan. It's a wonderful, meditative experience to lose yourself in.

Throwing knife
Please note that I love these things and gave them five stars before you read further. I just have to get it off my chest that these things are not kunais. A kunai was a thick, heavy and dull elliptically shaped chunk of wrought iron that medieval Japanese people used as a trowel. [...] These things are throwing knives. Really cool throwing knives. Pluses: + Very sharp. Each one of these three knives would make an excellent double edged dagger or a decent utility knife. In fact, you'd probably be unwise to throw this knife in a real fight because it would be more useful to you as a fighting knife. + Length. 12 inches. The blade is long enough to reach vital organs. + Weight and balance. Optimal for throwing. When throwing it at a plywood target the tip would penetrate several inches into the plywood. + The ring at the non-pointy end is useful for attaching a lanyard etc. Getting hit with the ring end wouldn't be fun either! Sometimes when I hit my plywood target with the ring end it would penetrate as well. + Inexpensive. I would easily pay this price for one throwing knife, but you get three for about $25! It's amazing! + Lethality. I can really envision these things inflicting a fatal wound. The weight and sharpness and blade length really combine to make a lethal weapon. This is not a toy, even though it's fun to play with. + Sheath. Appears to be high quality though I can't say I have used the sheath much. + Packaging. Attractive sturdy packaging with Expendables logo etc, and each blade is protected by a nice clear-plastic sheath within a sheath that could be a safe and handy way to protect the blade. I recommend not throwing away the packaging. That said, I just watched The Expendables on Netflix just to see these knives in action and it was about the stupidest movie I've ever seen. The only good part was seeing these knives plunge into people's necks and skulls with just the ring and handle sticking out. But that was maybe 2 minutes out of a 90 minute movie. + Tough. It's one piece and the steel is hard. I've owned throwing knifes that got bent from normal throwing. I threw one of these knives for hours yesterday and the knife did not bend, break, or chip. It's tougher than nails because nails bend! Minuses: - Other reviewers have pointed out that the cord wrapped around the handle comes off from normal throwing. I headed off this problem by wrapping bright orange duct tape around the handle of the one I use for practice. This kept the cord on and makes it easy to find in the grass when you miss or it bounces off the target. - The double-edged blade is so sharp that I had to grip it from the ring end when throwing it. I couldn't really hold the pointy end when throwing it for fear of cutting my fingers. If you've thrown knives you know that to make it hit point first from certain distances you have to grip it from the pointy end. In summary these are good, heavy, sharp high quality throwing knives that also make good daggers or field knives.

I Want to Buy It Again!
Edit: Amazon has changed how reviews are done, so I don't know how to rotate the photos, which were oriented properly before being uploaded. There should also be 7 photos, but again, Amazon is being weird and not displaying my review properly. I am definitely going to order a 2nd set of these! I bought these with the left over gift cards I got for my birthday (finally bought me the KA-BAR Becker BK9 and Remora) since it wasn't any skin off my back if they turned out to be junk. Well, I was pleasantly surprised by their quality and especially their heft! They are VERY easy to throw (I use the military-style quarter spin technique that keeps the point facing the target). I'd be more than willing to spend my own money to buy more of these! Since the reviews say the wrap comes off easily, I just hot-glued the ends of the wrap. Simple and cheap fix. I recommend that when throwing ANY knives, set up MULTIPLE TARGETS; never throw a knife at a target that has metal sticking out of it, or you'll damage your knives. This should be obvious, but a lot of people act like they're playing darts or using arrows. These are KNIVES, and they WILL damage other knives in the target. The sheath should have Kydex inserts, but you're getting what you pay for, so it's just nylon. The blades to come with point protectors for shipping, so I just used those for the inserts, and it works great. I have included a picture of one of these kunai next to 2 of the greatest mass produced knives of all time, the KA-BAR 1217 7" USMC combat knife, and the KA-BAR Becker BK9 "combat" Bowie knife. I figure any serious blade collector has at least one of those two knives, so it's a great size comparison. These kunai are about as thick as the BK9 (3/16"). I also gave mine crazy sharp edges sharpened with 3,000 and 8,000 grit ceramic, finished with a barber strop with extra fine jeweler's buffing compound (equal to about 200,000 grit, with less than 1 micron particle size). Though they are stainless steel, they came coated in oil. Though not necessary, it's nice to think United Cutlery does that anyway. Good practice. The leg strap and belt loop are definitely not made for tall people like me (6'4"), so I just looped the leg tie-down through the belt loop. These kunai feel comfortable to hold, even with my large hands. I highly recommend these!

Excellent Knives for the Price
These Expendebales Kunai throwers are very impresive right out the box. The shipping was fast and iparcel provided good tracking and great customer service. I must caution that these knives come RAZOR sharp. I am experienced with knives, but I still managed to slice a finger by picking up the knife from the blade. ALWAYS grab by the handle. The major qualm that people have with these knives is that the cord around the handle tends to come loose after minimal handling. I have had this happen before and the solution is simple: Just apply a few drops of super glue in key areas, especially at the beginning and end of the cord and along the handle. This will cement them in forever. I liked the idea of another reviewer that simply put red tape on the handles, in order to make them more visible when you are looking for them through the grass. I have to say that the knives are very well balanced and they stick well. The case is also funcional and appears to be sturdy. I would definitely recommend these to somebody who wants a cool movie memento and is into the art of knife throwing.

Good quality, worth the price.
Despite being a “replica” from a film, this set is fully functional for throwing. The set of 3 are 12” long each, and have good heft. Both edges are sharpened, and they can easily be sharpened more if you want them super sharp. Kunai are mostly made for throwing and most who practice this will tell you it’s best if the edges are not too sharp for obvious safety reasons. A nice set and well worth the price. A+

Great knives with tolerable flaws
some things to note about united cutlery’s the expendables kunai throwing knife three-set: you can purchase three set of knives on amazon for about $37 and it will ship to you on first class shipping so expect to receive the knives within a day or two depending. they will come in a white soft package and inside there will be a black rectangular box with the knives! these blades are 12 inches in length. the rings are a bit rough to spin around your fingers but fortunately, after enough time and practice, your fingers will callous and become used to the feeling (which is great for me because i really enjoy spinning these knives around? i like throwing them but not nearly as much as i like spinning them). the handle is wrapped in nylon cord and tucked into itself, you may have to cauterize the ends to the cord so that the cord doesn’t fall apart or else you’ll have to find something else to substitute the cord, i used black vinyl electrical tape to hold the cord together but i don’t really recommend that in the end. the black coat that the silver of the blades are covered in will fade a bit and even start to scrape off depending if another knife hits against it or the target it strikes into. i find that this doesn’t bother me so much but for those of you with more severe ocd than me and for those of you who like uniformation, that might irritate you. some people, i’ve found, just removed the black coating entirely and polished the silver off when they were done. after a several target throws, i’ve noticed the tips began graying or that the black coating was beginning to fade compared to newer knives, and that the edges of the blade were chipped at some points so to keep it smooth and whatnot, it might help to own a sharpening stone or a grinding wheel however, for throwing knives, the only thing that really has to be sharp is the point of the blade for it to stick and hold in the target. if you’re new to knife throwing, you will definitely get a few cuts on the side of your index finger, i think that’s to be expected as a beginner while figure out the aim. you’ll get a few tiny cuts here and there on your hands, and if you get these knives in particular and if you spin the rings around your fingers — expect your fingers to swell a bit from the friction of the steel rubbing against your skin but after a while, your fingers will callous and there won’t be anymore swelling. i do, overall, recommend these knives. they hold very well and despite their cons that i would consider minuscule and fixable, i have a lot of fun throwing them around and spinning them.

a little rough around the edges but for the money they are decent. OK. B+
OK throwing knives. Good balance good for no spin throwing. The string around her handle falls off within minutes of use but I put paracord Around it and it feels better than the thin stuff they use, its like a waxed shoelace. The paracord wrap makes them comfortable and look better. Comes with a ok sheath. Holds the knives tight, But I wish it had a snap closer instead of small Velcro holding the handles it has a leg wrap. Which is nice. They are pretty sharp, but could use some whetstone work. Careful with the tips they can break easily since they come to such a point. I'd throw one at a time then grab it out of th way if you are a beginner. the small details are messed up tho , the sharpened part ends differently on each side when it comes to the handle. one side is sharpened more than the other side so the tip is a little crooked. the finger circle at the end. is grinded crooked, quality and the little things arent a priority, other than that they are decent. Good for the price.

Excellent throwing knives, best I've ever used
I bought these because of their length and weight and I was impressed by the quality and usability of these knives. The weight lends itself to more uniform throws. They are thick and durable and have held up to over a year of abusive throwing. the edges have become nicked, and the tip of one broke, but considering how many times they hit each other on the target, and the aggressive way they were thrown, I would have expected this to happen way earlier. The steel used to make them seems ideal for the purpose, it's not so soft that the knives bend, and not so hard that they are brittle and break easilly. The wrapping that came on them is just for show and came off within 5 minutes of use. I tried many different kinds of handle wrapping, but none lasted long. I found fabric baseball bat grip tape to work best. If you have been shopping around and are considering the Gil Hibben competition knife set, forget those and get these. my friend got the Hibben knives and they are worthless. these are cheaper and throw way better.
