Q: How do these perform in end grain of pine?

I've used these on end grain of 2x12 yellow pine successfully by drilling 1/2" hole and coating the outer threads with Loctite PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive 10-Ounce Cartridge (1390595), available from Amazon, which adds lubrication when inserting them. Allowing the adhesive to set overnight insures they stay in place. Care must be taken not to get the adhesive on the inner threads. Clean off any excess glue with lacquer thinner before it sets. Thru trial and error I found these inserts to be made of very soft material so you can't torque on them very hard or the hex part will break. They aren't easily removed once that is broken. The best way is to use an bolt extractor. The Sixbox Broken Bolt and Damaged Screw Extractor set, also available from Amazon, will come in handy if you do break them. BTW, the Loctite PL Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive PL 3x is the best construction adhesive I've ever used. Yeah, it's a little pricey but it is very strong if allowed to cure.

Q: What is the correct length? One place is states 10mm. Customer states 1 inch

Find the response I wrote some months ago. It has a lot of technical details. I really like these but the information is sparse. They're 1". 10mm is about 2/5s of an inch. The thread size is 1/4-20. Should be easy to figure out. Amazon should hire a few people with basic common sense and a few skills, so we're not all trying to guess about this stuff. They have no excuse.
