Begintermediate Doumbek Workshop is the perfect DVD for those who know the basics and want to take the next step. You will learn your first embellishments, exercises for switching between rhythms, how to play the "pop" sound and also the finger roll. This video is the second in a series by workshop teacher Carmine T. Guida and was filmed live at one of his workshops to capture his teaching style and enthusiasm. You'll enjoy learning along with your fellow students.

Good buy for beginners
It’s really pretty basic stuff, there are some gems hidden here though. The best part is the performance piece at the end, involving solos. One of the other drummers is Brad McDonald who came to Michigan with his wife Kaisha. He conducted the workshop on how to do drum solos for dancers while she taught the dance part of the work shop. The performance shown is exactly what they taught in the workshop. It was cool to see it in full action so to speak, and really appreciate the possibilities. Other good practice tips, techniques too.

best Doumbek CD on the market -
this is a great cd and overall series. I've tried other cd including some of the great Masters....however, this cd is excellent for taking a beginner fast through the rythms, plus uses humor, plus uses a classroom environment so you can see others trying out the techniques, struggling with them, getting victorious over them, etc., which is a great encourage-builder.Plus there are bonuses at the end of each cd that includes jam sessions that allow you to just freestyle it and have fun. Fingerroll took some time learning but now i've got it down-pat. My lef-handed Ka has been wicked weak and pathetic even after learning it from other cd-lessons...but from this cd alone, I feel like I now have a professional-style left-handed Ka and I'm ready to blaze the trail.I'll post a video of what I've learned sometime soon - and you'll see that in two short weaks of being a complete novice at the Doumbek I've been able to learn some very cool rythms and techniques in no time. Bring it on.Well done and I've already purchased both the begginer and the beginnermediate cd's and look forward to purchasing the advanced editions. Thanks!

Very good!
Got this one after seeing it at my teacher's. We both enjoyed it and decided to get it. Fun to see a group on the DVD doing the exercises together.

Wonderful Teacher!
As a music teacher myself, I am so impressed with Carmine's teaching style. Gentle and patient, Carmine takes his time in both the "Baby Beginner" and this "Begintermediate" DVD to explain and demonstrate the rhythms, then allows sufficient time for you to play along with the class so you don't have to keep stopping the DVD. His personality and sense of humor relax the students. With the other students in the DVD playing along with you, it's a "community" learning experience, not just watching someone dryly teach to you alone on screen. Since many students tend to tense when concentrating on a new skill, his gentle reminders of "Are you smiling? Are you having fun?" help you to remember to relax and breathe while learning. It's not just about rhythms, but also about proper playing technique. I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone wanting to improve their doumbek skills. And no worries if you don't read music! Thank you, Carmine, now I can play my doumbek with confidence for my bellydance students!

I have the "Baby Beginner" DVD... watch it over and over.. when I first started drumming I figured I would never be able to pick it up. Low and behold I am "back for seconds" I purchased "Begintermediate" DVD and am able to play along with the rhythms already... when I don't have a drum I play on my legs... OMG easy, fantastic.. AWESOME! I now have drumming in my basement to share Carmine's knowledge with friends! I also am able to play at market on Saturday for the girls!! Thanks

Carmine makes learning fun
This is a good learning DVD. Basically it is a video of Carmine teaching a workshop. What I like is1. He makes it fun2. He gives you some interesting ways to practice3. He provides a couple of different ways to add variety to a rhythm (give me give me chocolate chocolate - you have to watch the DVD to understand)4. He teaches you to practice changing rhythms.
