Green Building: Principles and Practices in Residential Construction (Go Green with Renewable Energy Resources)

Comprehensive guide...bridges the gap in theory and practice
The book is well written, easy to follow, and offers a great overview and detail of Green Building principles. Information contained in the book is useful to builders, consumers, and even policy makers. The book starts off with giving the reader a brief history of green building, to include information on green initiatives and different certifications available. The book mainly provides guidelines for design and construction of green residences - electrical, mechanical/HVAC, civil/structural/framework, site selection, material sourcing, fenestration, finishes, etc. What I like about the book is that it also features industry practitioners' experience with green residences, giving us their insights and best-practice systems & processes that we can easily follow. The diagrams contained in the book are VERY helpful. Also, I've had the pleasure of having the authors teach my class for Green Building at Georgia Tech's Building Construction Program. They're both highly proficient in the green field and they really believe in what they teach.

Exhaustively authoritative
I am familiar with Carl Seville's writing as the "Green Curmudgeon" at GreenBuildingAdvisor.com, appreciate his practiced pragmatism, and was excited to learn he (and co-author Abe Kruger) had authored a book. Even so, I sweated over the price tag for a few days before pulling the trigger. Man, was it worth it and then some. The book arrived a couple weeks ago, and I'm still pouring through it. Want some thoughtful insight on AAC? Check. Need more info on xeriscaping and drought tolerant plants? Check. Tips for avoiding phantom loads? Check. Detailed illustrations clearly describing extreme advanced faming techniques? Check. It's all here, including an excellent index and a thorough glossary. Highly recommended for the architect, the builder, the remodeler, and the student.

Copyright Issues with Kindle rented Textbook
The book itself seems to be fine. I have rented it for a course I am taking. I am encountering tables/illustrations that have been blacked out with a note saying that it is for copyright reasons. This does not make sense to me. These items are available in the print version. I should have an electronic text that is identical to the print version. This is the only place I can find where I can provide feedback. There does not seem to be a number to call or an email address for technical assistance.

Detailed and well illustrated
I'm a green builder who builds primarily straw bale small homes in the desert west, and this is a great addition to my construction and materials availability knowledge. Great tips in here for lay people as well as pros.
