This is the perfect afternoon tea with a mild kick. I love green tea and to some, it is an acquired taste since it can run on the bitter side if it isn't brewed correctly. I use a Teavana PerfecTea which has a diffuser on the bottom for my loose teas. One teaspoon is enough to make a perfect cup with 16 ounces of water. Don't use boiling water with this since you will get a burnt flavor. If your water is boiling, let it cool for a minute or so before brewing.

Recently I had come across Earl Grey Black Tea from the same manufacturer and loved the taste and smell of that product. Since my wife enjoys green tea I decided to give this product a try. Having tasted green tea before and the need for special brewing process I am having some knowledge that you need a Tea ball of some sorts at bare minimum or own an expensive french press or an infuser to brew this loose-leaf Chinese Gunpowder Green Tea. I am also aware that green tea are usually brewed at lower temperatures compared to Black tea. Having said that, I am not very impressed with the smell or taste of this green tea when I brewed it using a Tea Ball. Do not get me wrong. It is not awfully bad or something like that but the taste was average just like any other green tea that I have tasted before. May be I am doing something wrong in the brewing process? - Another reason for knocking a star down is the price.. there is very little tea gunpowder inside the package for the asking price that makes this very expensive green tea. Rating it with three stars!

I am not a big fan of the taste of Green tea but I have to admit that this Elevate Tea CHINESE GUNPOWDER GREEN TEA is actually pretty good. I found it to be smoother than what I am used to in Green tea. The loose leaves flavored the hot water rather rapidly and it had a flavor that was more full. I have made this Green tea part of my after meal routine because it seems to make my stomach feel good after a meal and, of course, because of its antioxidant benefits. If you are like me and aren't a big fan of the taste of Green tea but want the benefits of Green tea this is a good option because of its smooth character.

The tea comes in a heavy plastic zip bag, one side metallic looking and the other side clear so you can see the tea and how much is left. I like the zip seal to help keep the tea fresher. I brewed the tea in my clear mug in a basket, using hot water from my instant hot faucet, which is about 180 degrees. The first time, I brewed for 3 minutes, which was too long - the tea was on the edge of bitter and gave me serious dry mouth (Sometimes I have a problem with that when I drink tea). The next cup was a 2-minute brew, which was much better, although maybe next time I'll try 2.5 minutes <g>. The tea is a nice golden color (which is why I like to drink tea in a clear mug - the colors are so pretty, varying with the blend and type of tea). There's a hint of smokey flavor to it. I would buy this tea again and need to check out other varieties offered by Elevate Tea.
