Value and quality
Excellent product. As of now its cutting 8-10oz tooling leather and does so like cutting warm butter with a hot knife. Happy so far with this and has saved my hands from a lot of heavy cutting. Seems to be durable and should work for many years

Don't let the bad reviews scare you off
After searching for some time and despite the negative reviews I decided that this was still my best bet for the purpose I had intended. When the product arrived I was initially disappointed, as some other reviewers had mentioned it appeared to have been used and re-packaged. There were fibers on the blade and the cord had been re-twist tied (the twist tie was also damaged) badly (obviously not the original cord winding). I decided before complaining or writing a negative review I would give it a go (considering it didn't appear to be damaged in any way).Prior to plugging it in I looked over the included sellers instructions and safety notices. Despite the obvious minor translation issues I found the manufacturers instructions to be simple and clear. It would have been nice if they had included blade and worm gear lubricant but it is all good. Blade lube they recommend just motor oil (like for your car) on this. The grease for the worm gear isn't listed in the manual but appears to be run of the mill clear synthetic grease. Most people buying this are probably using it for sewing and you could probably use sewing machine oil and grease for this cutter. I am not using it for sewing and will likely use worm gear grease and engine oil. Many people had mentioned the trigger being both inconvenient and dangerous, sometimes even starting on it's own. The first thing I noticed before plugging it in was that the trigger actually fit very well in my hand and I didn't have to put my hand into any awkward position to activate it. After plugging it in I didn't find the trigger to be overly sensitive, it never started when I didn't intend to start it, and I didn't have any issues with the cutter starting by itself after being placed down while pugged in. I assume people are setting cutter down on the trigger? I don't know that is the best guess I have. The cutter itself is surprisingly quiet, much quieter than I had expected as videos made it sound much louder than it actually is. I was able to cut while on the phone with someone and they didn't notice.I was very happy with the performance of the device, the moment I started cutting any reservations I may have had about the item being used vanished. This thing is cool, you want to cut things up just to cut them. It cuts very fast and clean. I did have problems keeping the line straight but I was also not on a table.Overall completely delighted with my purchase. This thing is honestly way cooler than I thought it would be. Was it previously opened? Perhaps, but I don't actually think so. My guess is they do a quick QC run prior to packaging and that whomever did the QC simply didn't pack it as nice as it could be or clean it as nice as it could have been cleaned. As to customer support I have not contacted them (no need to). Given their service e-mail is @hotmail I wouldn't have too high of hopes with that, but the product does have me pleasantly surprised as it is so I could be wrong there.

it works and it is safe
this is a solid tool. well made, well packaged. delivered on time.i guess i'm old fashioned but this is a tool. i had no issues with the switch. in fact it is positioned properly to do the work. it's a tool and tools must be used properly. don't stick your finger on the blade. same as you would not do with any cutting or sawing tool. no more dangerous than a jig saw or circular saw. by the way, it works exactly as described. cuts inch thin carpet with jute backing easily. 10 - 50 times faster than any knife or hand blade no matter how sharp. no snags, no runs just easy cutting. just like the video. it is made in china but it is a solid tool and seems built to last. it's a fair price for a tool that saves so much time and effort.

Great for DIY.
My husband and I are replacing our carpet and purchased it to make taking the old carpet up easier than just using a utility knife. My husband is totally impressed with this tool. It cuts through the carpet easily and quickly. I am sure I will find other uses for it, but it is very heavy duty. Makes this job much easier.

Efficient cutter but use carefully
I didn’t know what to expect of this tool, having never bought anything quite like it, but it works exceedingly well. My goal was to remove a goodly amount of older carpet—thick pile, high quality, with a stiff jute backing material, laid over thick padding. It was probably top of the line some 30 years ago. I first tried a regular carpet knife, but it would have taken a very, very long time. So I decided to find some sort of power cutter designed for a thick material. This went through the carpet… like a hot knife through butter as the saying goes. The blade is very sharp… very, very sharp. The package included an extra blade, and instructions for installing, but I have not had need of it yet. Now for the words of CAUTION!!!From a design standpoint, I think this tool could be better in terms of safety features. The switch to activate is on the bottom side of the body of the tool, so that your little (pinkie) finger can turn it on. But there is NO guard over that trigger switch. The lightest touch starts the blade spinning. Even putting it down on the floor next to you could set it going if the switch comes to rest on some slightly raised object.I have a healthy respect for power tools, and this one even more so.My rules of operation for this cutter:--Do NOT leave it unattended while it’s plugged in, especially if you have children or pets in the home. In fact, unplug it every time you stop using it even just for a few minutes.--Do NOT put your other hand anywhere near the area you are cutting.--Stay laser focused on what you are doing; do not be distracted, or look away.--If the cutter should get hung up in the material being cut, STOP, UNPLUG it, and free the cutter.--Keep both hands, the power cord, and anything you do not want to sever, BEHIND the cutter.--Cut only a few feet at a time, no farther than you can safely reach. This will also avoid overheating the cutter. The main point here is that the tool is highly effective, but using it presents inherent hazards that are slightly amplified by its design.
