how is the knife used to break a window and if the blade is used to break a window will it damage the blade

For anyone else wondering the safest way to use any knife to break a window is to you the glass breaker in the opposite end of the knife smash through the corner of the window so that way you don’t risk glass flying into whoever you’re rescuing once you’ve smashed through the glass use the back of the blade itself to clear away and extra pieces still attached so you can safely extract the victim

Is there a special method to fold the knife? I took this knife straight out of the packaging and it seems stuck in the open position.

See the previous answers. FYI. I purchased this knife for my wife. She doesn't have the thumb strength to open the blade with one hand using the thumb stud (it is a challenge for me as well) nor the thumb strength to press down on the lockback with enough pressure to close the blade.

Is it spring assisted

No, the SOG "Escape" is not spring assisted. And, as in any other stout combat knife, there is a noticeable amount of force required to open the blade. My one critique concerning this folder, is that the Teflon coating on the scales is too slippery for adequate grip during blade deployment. That being said, I was so impressed with is knife that I took the time to re-contoured the locking ramp portion of the blade for easier deployment. I would like to see this fine knife reconfigured with G10 scales to alleviate the grip issue.

can the slot be used as a bottle opener?

No. I've owned this knife twice now. I cannot. However, you can use the knife as a bottle opener... Assuming you have the bottle in your left hand and the knife in your right.. 1. Turn the knife on its side with the knife CLOSED, not just for safety but for how you would accomplish this. 2. Slide the top (dull side) of the blade against the bottom of the bottle top. At this point, your left hand is gripping the top of the bottle (beer bottle). 3. Use the left index finger that should be folded closed from gripping the bottle as leverage to push the knife blade up into the air as you grip the bottle to hold the bottle itself still. 4. POP!!! You can alse do this with the butt of a lighter...or any firm object that can get under the edge of the bottle top.
