Q: Why Will it not open on start up

You have to pull the trigger 2 times for it to open once you have the power turned on.

Q: Ok, i have a really stupid question. the blades wouldn't move at all. the battery is fully charged, and i turned the switch on. it's not working.

After turning on the switch, press and release the trigger twice in quick succession. The blades will open to the maximum opening. You're really going to have to read the instructions for this device, though they're very difficult to "interpret." Most of what you need to know can be found in a table on page 1. You'll need to know how to close the blades before you power the device off. That's also on that page.

Q: Has anyone used this for vineyard pruning - many acres, thousands of cuts per day?

I used this for hemp harvest; not sure if it was thousands of cuts, but constant use all day to cut off branches. One battery is always charging; the charge gives you about 4 hours of constant use. I have found this cutter is fast with no hesitation after hitting the trigger. Definitely give it a thumbs up! But keep both thumbs a safe distance from the blades.
